The Pearl Danio is a active, hardy, small shoaling fish from Asia which makes it perfect for beginners or thriving community tanks. They often have different colouration ranging from brown, tan through to red’s and blue’s.

They naturally live in slow water ponds often with no water flow, as a result we suggest the use of a sponge filter as opposed to an internal or external filter.

Given the correct conditions they may successfully breed, they are egg-layers with no parental instinct and will readily consume eggs, if breeding is attempted it is best to separate 1 male and 3 females in a separate tank, remove once breeding has occurred.

Tank requirements:

  • Heavily planted - we recommend Hydrocharitaceae which includes such genera as Elodea, Egeria and Blyxa.

  • Slow water movement - we recommend sponge filters.

  • Dark substrate with a preference of sand and soil.

  • Minimum of 40L tank with a base size of 45 x 30cm’s

  • Minimum of 6 per group with a preference of 20+

Water parameters:

  • Temperature: 20-26 Celsius

  • Hardness: 5 - 20 GDH

  • PH: 6.0 - 8.0 - wild caught species tested around 7.3

  • KH: 4 - 16 degrees
