Galaxy Rasbora - Celestial Pearl Danio - Celestichthys margaritatus

£5.49

The Celestial Pearl Danio is one of the most sought after fish within the hobby, it’s striking natural colourations and small stature bought the fish close to extinction within 4 months of being discovered in the foothills of a mountain in Myanmar. A small, often timid fish that requires a densely planted, slow moving tank to thrive, best kept in groups of 20+ with a minimum of 6 per tank. They benefit best from tanks with a dark substrate, a base size no smaller than 45 × 30CM’s with areas of dense live plants to provide security and reducing competitive dominance between males.

They naturally live in slow water ponds often with no water flow, as a result we suggest the use of a sponge filter as opposed to an internal or external filter.

Given the correct conditions they may successfully breed, they are egg-layers with no parental instinct and will readily consume eggs, if breeding is attempted it is best to separate 1 male and 3 females in a separate tank, remove once breeding has occurred.

Tank requirements:

  • Heavily planted - we recommend Hydrocharitaceae which includes such genera as Elodea, Egeria and Blyxa.

  • Slow water movement - we recommend sponge filters.

  • Dark substrate with a preference of sand and soil.

  • Minimum of 40L tank with a base size of 45 x 30cm’s

  • Minimum of 6 per group with a preference of 20+

Water parameters:

  • Temperature: 20-26 Celsius

  • Hardness: 5 - 14 GDH

  • PH: 6.5 - 7.5 - wild caught species tested around 7.3

  • KH: 4 - 16 degrees
