The Golden Barb is a hardy, shoaling fish that can tolerate a wide variety of water parameters with no particular fuss regarding tank set-ups, they can even be kept in aquariums without heaters as they can tolerate temperatures as low as 15 degrees. As with all barbs they are most comfortable in groups of 5 or more and this can aid in calming aggression that Barbs naturally possess.
Their colouration improves with both age and the presence of both sexes, when purchased from stock tanks or first delivered, they appear washed out however, given some time to settle into a suitable aquarium, they will develop the iconic gold and black colouration.
