The vampire crab is a predominantly land based crab, often found near ponds, puddles and streams in tropical forests, this being said, they do require a water bathing area so it is generally recommended to keep them in Paludariums with a semi aquatic area. They are highly sociable crabs that flourish with companions so it is recommended to keep them as groups.

Ideal setups are river style paludariums, often housed with smaller, agile fish like danios, the water level can be as deep as required however, an easy method of climbing back to dry land must be provided. They are omnivorous crustaceans that will eat any easy meal, this can be fruit, vegetables or meat based like blood worms, meal worms etc.

Water Parameters:

  • There are no specific water requirements as they are predominantly land based however, it is generally recommended to us RO water that has been remineralised to a PH around 7.5, temperature should be maintained between 20 - 26 Celsius with humidity above 50%. Regular water changes should be completed to remove waste products and prevent fouling or stagnation.

They are incredibly good climbers that can climb silicone with ease - as a result a tight fitting lid must be fitted!
