The Purple Spotted Gudgeon is a freshwater fish from Australia, known for its distinctive purple and orange spots that run from head to tail.

They are known to be territorial and will readily consume smaller tank mates so they are best kept in large, well structured aquariums with similar sized fish.

In the wild they are found in slower flowing rivers, creeks and billabongs tucked amongst dense plants, wood and rocks so aquariums replicating this serve best.

They will not eat dried food like flakes, pellets or wafers so must be fed a diet of insects, live and frozen foods, molluscs and crustaceans.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 16 - 22 Celsius

  • PH: 6.8 - 7.8 PH

  • Carbonate Hardness: 3 - 20 DKH

  • General Hardness: 8 - 25 GDH
