Green and Gold Corydora
A small catfish that prefers a cool aquarium, Corydoras Melanotaenia features some wonderful green, gold and black colours. Like all Cory's, these are a peaceful, busy, schooling catfish suitable for all small and medium sized community set ups. They come from shallow waters in South America and will spend time in all levels of the aquarium.
Growing up to 6cm in length, these need to be kept in a tank at least 60cm long and will tolerate a pH level of anywhere between 6.0 and 7.2.
A tank with fine gravel or sand is recommended to help protect the fish’s barbels, along with some plants, rocks, and wood to hide in when desired.
Keep with other community fish and feed a mix of slow sinking granules, catfish pellets, and frozen tropical foods.
Always active during the day, very good at rooting around keeping the tank bottom clean.
The Corydoras species of catfish contains around 180 species which are wide spread across South America. They are all very peaceful and grow from 2.5cm (such as C.Habrosus, Hastatus & Pygmaeus) right up to not more than 12cm (C.Barbatus), although most are between 5-10cm. They are the easiest to keep, very active, and most versatile of non-predatory catfishes, suitable for all peaceful aquariums.
