Pygmy Puffer - Dwarf Puffer - Malabar Puffer - Carinotetraodon travancoricus
The Pygmy puffer is the smallest (and cutest) puffer fish recorded measuring up to 2.5CM’s when fully grown. They are best suited in a species only tank, they are slow, graceful moving fish that will not fare well when competing for food, they often have a tendency to nip the fins or long-fin or slow moving fish.
They require a heavily planted tank with driftwood and roots to provide plenty of cover, they are an extremely inquisitive fish that require a well established setup to keep them stimulated, they are one of the few fish that suffer from depression. Due to their size they are best kept in tanks with sponge filters and a slow water movement. A soft sandy substrate should be provided to benefit the fish, they are very sensitive to deteriorating water quality so frequent and small water changes are required.
Tank requirements:
Heavily planted - they benefit best from small leaved plants and assorted Moss like Java
Slow water movement - we recommend sponge filters.
Dark substrate with a preference of sand and soil.
Minimum of 15L tank per Puffer, additional puffers require 2-3 gallons each
Water parameters:
Temperature: 22-28 Celsius
Hardness: 5 - 14 GDH
PH: 6.0 - 8.0
KH: 4 - 7 degrees
