Albino African Clawed Frog - Xenopus laevis
Originating from Africa, originally found in Arid and sub Arid wetlands however, is well suited to adapt to an array of environments. They are best kept in a species only, well-covered set up as they are known for being veracious predators. Often sold as a fully aquatic animal, they are known to travel short distances out of water to new ponds and lakes, due to this we recommend a well fitted lid installed on the tank. Despite being aquatic, they do require the ability to take air from above the tanks water, this means a minimum air gap of around 5cm’s should be left between the lid and water level.
Substrate must be chosen carefully we recommend sand as the substrate, DO NOT use a course substrate like gravel as frog’s may accidentally ingest which can be fatal. The frog’s need a deep enough substrate to dig in and root for food, this will disrupt the substrate so it is best not to use live plants in smaller tanks. These frogs, in the right conditions will reproduce and can LIVE UP TO 20 YEARS.
Tank requirements:
Air gap between lid of tank and water
Sandy substrate best suited, avoid gravel.
Live plants in large tanks only
Feed a variety of food including Prawns, Mysis, Brine and sinking carnivorous pellets
Water parameters:
Temperature: 10-28 Celsius
Hardness: 12 - 26 GDH
PH: 6.8 - 7.8
KH: 7 - 12 degrees
